"Oasis" should become the key design theme in making our canals into great public spaces. Think of the natural shade that is created by tall palms and other desert landscaping. Consider nautical style shade structures that can be added to needed service structures, like bridges (eg. Pedestrian Bridge at Tempe Town Lake). These types of elements remind people of what we all like so much about being around water.
