I love the idea of the lightrail. I would rather take public transportation: save money, save gas, save the environment, etc. However, the lightrail needs a few major improvements before it could be useful for me to use as a replacement for a vehicle: - free wifi. If I could access the internet while riding, I could utilize the 45 minute commute from Mesa/Tempe to downtown Phoenix. - speed. Right now, the lightrail takes far longer than driving. It's inefficient. If the lightrail could be timed for lights so it never hit a red light (always green), and only made its stops at designated lightrail stations, the commute time would vastly improve and ridership would increase. - operating hours. A midnight last trip for weekdays and a 3am last trip for weekends (since last call is at 2am) would also increase ridership.
