It may be HIP to be SQUARE, but it's also what causes Road Rage and driver frustration in Phoenix. There are no parkways or curved streets except 7th near Sunnyslope which is lovely to drive. Why not take an area you are trying to breathe life into or redevelope and put in a CIRCLE, a LAKE. Don't block streets but if it's a dead area... why not!
