The area south of downtown Phoenix needs a full service hospital with an emergency room -- probably more than one now, in the area that includes all of Laveen, South Mountain, and Ahwatukee villages. This need has been documented since at least as early as the 1990s, and population in these areas has grown drastically since then. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, this is the right time to reevaluate the economics of building additional healthcare facilities. The city should be lobbying Maricopa County Integrated Health Services, HHS, and others to make this happen soon. |
