"Brownfields and the Arts: Phoenix" (BATA-PHX) is an informal, ad hoc project focused on exploring an idea: whether it is possible to remediate brownfield (environmentally contaminated) properties using funds available to non-profit organizations, and to make these properties available for free or at reduced cost for arts-related uses. The current vision is roughly a cross between Artspace (http://www.artspace.org/) and Not a Cornfield (http://www.notacornfield.info/index.html)

This idea was conceived by students in Arizona State University’s School of Public Affairs URB 400 Senior Professional Seminar course in the spring of 2010. Their draft report is linked below.
