Something's got to give with ticket checks

Honestly, having rode the light rail for about 3 years now, I can say that my ticket has been checked maybe 5% of the time. This lack of oversight causes transients to use light rail without paying or crime on light rail. I've seen a stabbing, public indecency (inappropriate touching of oneself) and plenty of intoxicated people disturbing the peace on the light rail. I feel as though if there were a better system for checking tickets and more oversight, more people would feel safe riding the train. Don't get me wrong, it's safe majority of the time, but it does tend to attract people at times who may be a danger to transit patrons.
