McDowell and 7th Ave had been a sleepy collection of antique stores and dollar stores until 15 years years ago when an entrepreneur bought up chunks of it and converted them into a bakery, modernist art gallery, high end watering hole, and then abandoned Phoenix altogether.
Some of the repurposing after his exit has been tasteful, but most of the square footage has been anonymized and dulled into massmarket chainstore world.
Vovomeena is an exception - the third ebullient iteration of a local chef's vision.
