The Phoenix City Government has spent years, a lot of money and tremendous resources including police protection and transportation attempting to attract citizens to the downtown area. Overall it seems to have been mildly effective. Many restaurants have failed, parking can still be difficult and many citizens are not interested in traveling downtown. Instead perhaps our City government should concentrate on delivering necessary services across the City and ensure that regulations are fair and not overly cumbersome. How does the City justify to business people accross the valley that the government needs to spend millions of dollars to attract people downtown to spend their money when it is obvious they would rather dine and seek entertainment closer to their home? The City's main library is another prime example of misplaced resources. Phoenix spent millions of dollars to build a library in a location which is terribly inconvenient to the majority of its citizens. Why weren't resources instead spread accross the valley closer to where people live and work?
