2-3 years back the City cut positions from Fire Prevention within the Fire Department. Phoenix needs more fire prevention inspectors. I have worked for a fire system installer in the past and I am aware of the NFPA & ICC codes. Very often, I come across violations of fire code in existing businesses. Usually the businesses are not aware. Fire prevention would inspect and educate on a regular basis with business owners. If they did not comply, then they could be cited. Most owners want to comply, so they don't have the liability. They just need the education. While performing fire inspections, fire prevention inspectors also look out for the safety of Fire Fighters should they need to respond to a situation in a building.

The result of Fire Prevention has been just that - fire prevention!
