Have a Front Porch program to encourage people and builders to add nice front porches and/or shaded hardscaped sitting areas to the front of their houses. This would include a marketing program, a set of pre-approved plans and streamline permits, a list of approved contractors to make it easier to accomplish, financing for the construction, etc. Desert front yards are typically designed to discourage front yard interaction. This really hurts the neighborhood cohesiveness and has a negative impact on our community in numerous ways. Front porches would also remove landscaped areas that need water and would provide shade near the house, reducing electricity.
