Let's start with stating the obvious: it gets extremely hot here in PHX. Sounds like common sense, right? But then why doesn't the city act upon this fact by creating more shade at local bus stops? It's bad enough that there are long periods of waiting between bus arrivals at a stop, but can't we at least enjoy some shade while we wait? I've seen really great bus stop enclosures here that provide good shade to commuters. For instance, a stop on the Southern bus route in front of MCC has a great structure that's reminiscent of a gazebo. Realizing that it would be very expensive to build such structures for every bus stop, I'd like to suggest just planting a couple of trees at every bus stop to provide commuters with shade.
