New subdivisions laid out on a "Spanish Grid"
A Spanish grid layout helps shade buildings & streets from the harsh summer sun

So we all know Phoenix is laid out on a grid system, its wonderfully easy to get around. I'm not suggesting we change PHX's grid system, but once you're "inside" a square mile of gridded arterial streets, new subdivisions are often a spaghetti like mess of webbed streets.

The City should assert more control of the layout of streets within new subdivisions. No more allowing confusing curvilinear streets, excessive dead end cul-de-sacs, etc.

Generally the City should require developers to lay their neighborhoods/master planned communities out on a "Spanish Grid." The Spanish Grid was a tool in urban planning used by the Spanish when they came to the New World. It wisely takes into account a Cities location in terms of latitude and longitude and orients it accordingly.

This system allows streets and buildings to be shadier in the summer, and sunnier in the winter- brilliant!

No more houses thoughtlessly aligned with huge fronts of windows facing the scorching south side and giant electric utility bills!
