I often bike about 23 miles round-trip along the canals from Central Phoenix to East Phoenix and would like to see more pavement and underpasses (or overpasses). I have a vehicle and could easily drive to work but prefer to combine my commute and exercise into one routine while also reducing carbon emissions. I think more bikers would use the canals as well for commuting if there were more paved areas along the way. Underpasses would also be a great way to eliminate vehicle/bicycle conflicts and would help reduce commute times. We have such a great system of canals that is shared by so many people, why not make them avenues for eliminating vehicle traffic? I'm not suggesting paving the entire width of the canal path, just have a paved area for cyclists and a separate dirt path for the walkers and runners.
