There should be a way for retired Phoenix officers to stay involved in making our city safer. I retired recently and the first thing I missed was not having my police radio...not just to assist if needed, but to know what was going on around me and to be an experienced set of eyes and ears for our overburdened patrol officers.
It just seems to be a waste to not utilize ex-officers who don't want to join the reserves but still want to help when they are out and about in the communities where they live. It should not be that hard, or expensive, to set up such a program.
