Revive the Salt River - build Rio Salado Oeste

The Salt River is currently a barren wasteland from 83rd Ave to 19th Ave, where it meets with a beautiful, revived riparian habitat complete with running and biking trails. Let's extend this all the way west to the Gila River by executing on the Rio Salado Oeste plan. In addition to benefiting the birds and other wildlife, it will give commuters and outdoor enthusiasts an unobstructed lane right into downtown.

by Nicole R11 I'm very much for executing the Rio Salado Oeste plan!

by Patrick B4 Not to mention, the greenbelt that would naturally develop along this whole stretch if it were allowed would help tremendously toward our city's need for cooling vegetation.

by Will Novak I'm all for it, lets start by moving the current plants and such that are in the river bed from 19th Ave to 7th St to the West of 19th Ave, and extend the Town Lake all the way to 19th. The water that spills beyond the bridge at 19th Ave will naturally help create a riparian zone, just like is currently happening on either side of the Town Lake

by Bob D3 We can convert dozens of miles of existing canal into a riverfront district, unless the fact that they're working canals makes that impossible. But Iwe've all seen what Scottsdale was able to do around Camelback and Scottsdale Road ...

by Nicole R11 The current Rio Salado riparian area took years of work. Leave the plants please. Leave Tempe Town Lake where it's at. We are in a desert. Water front property is not a desert wise means of living.

by Benjamin S There's enough open land on the sides of the river to support a grand riverfront district and would encourage mass development.
