South Mountain Park Master Plan

South Mountain Park is the 2nd largest park in the world. I propose it's master plan be revised and updated. I have gathered ideas from various idea postings and included a few more. Please add ideas. South Mountain is another Phoenix icon that is on the back burner. The park has a lot of potential that is neglected. The park's resources need better monitoring protection. Park Naturalist overseeing park operations. Gondolas to the top? Remove quarter midget track – fun but not conducive to a mountain preserve. Police Academy shooting range - A loud nuisance. Should not be done outdoors near a preserve. Trail construction and maintenance Central Ave fee charge Park tours to the top? Better trailhead kiosks to educate on safety and preparedness. Signs educating/warning vehicles could overheat during summer months on the drive to the top. I've seen it! Speed enforcement - please to don't kill the wildlife and hikers. Light Rail to Baseline...or Dobbins even? Ramada Reservation fees Kiosk booth at Dobbins Lookout with volunteer docents. Stricter enforcement for off trail visitors – protection of petroglyphs Beautify Park Entrance on Central Ave. 1-2 police units designated to park during park hours. Later summer hours to allow entrance to view the sunset from the vista points. Popular tourist attraction. Closure on Easter due to the large amount of off trail violations and littering from Easter holiday products (i.e. candy, eggs, plastic toys, plastic grass, etc.). The park closes for July 4th and New Year’s Eve. Why not Easter – which is not a City holiday, but the preserve should be closed on this day for the same reason as July 4th and New Years Eve. These days the park is closed to protect its natural resources with good cause to do so.
