The 1914 Luhrs Central Building, a two story building near Central Avenue and Madison, has been slated for demolition as part of a hotel development project announced five years ago. It is the oldest building on the block, dominated in height and popularity by its two companions, the 1924 Luhrs Building and 1929 Luhrs Tower.

With the recent demolition of the Madison and St. James hotels, downtown Phoenix has two less historic buildings. Might it be time to reconsider the proposed demolition of the 1914 Luhrs Central Building and incorporate it into the design of any future hotel development? Hey, if it's good enough for a recent Volkswagen commercial, why not keep it?
