Allow two lanes to turn left from Jefferson onto 7th Ave

Currently only the left-most lane can turn left onto northbound 7th ave. from eastbound (one-way) Jefferson. The result is that beginning at 5 pm the left lane backs up with up to 30+ cars waiting to turn left, because the lane next to it must go straight. That lane should be a left/straight lane. Plenty of room to do this and I can't see the downside.

by Derek H1 The downside is it will encourage more people to make that turn, and eventually either that intersection will get congested again or another intersection along the same route, so we'll be right back where we started.

The real cure is to stop forcing people to drive. One way is to relax zoning laws on parking, and replace them with improved management of parking resources: http://www.myplanphx.com/shaping-phoenix-s-future/bring-modern-parking-management-technology-to-phoenix

by kelly D13 There are 5 lanes of traffic on Jefferson, all heading east. The reality is that folks who live north have to turn north on 7th Ave. Allowing two lanes to turn left will simply reduce congestion at the intersection, not increase it. Relaxing zoning laws on parking has nothing to do with allowing two lanes to turn left.
