The building on the southeast corner of Monroe and Central has been vacant since I have been working at the ASU downtown campus which is about 6 1/2 years now. I am not sure how many floors there are, I think about 5 or 6, but I am wondering why that building could not be convereted into a mall that would house shops that would cater to the college and business population downtown. I envision shopping "mall" to be similar to the one in Union Square in San Francisco. It would have a food court on the first floor and retail stores and shops and shops that cater to the college and business population downtown, on the upper floors. Shops that could occupy the space could be ones similar to the ones at the Tempe Marketplace. A retailer like Macy's could occupy one floor by itself. The top floor could be a well known restaurant like the Cheese Cake Factory or some other well known restaurant not already in the downtown area.
