Bicycle-friendly business districts (BFBDs) can be created in areas that are dense with shops and restaurants. These districts allow neighbors to easily shop local and merchants can use cargo bikes to make bicycle deliveries and get local supplies. Bike lanes and bike racks are added, bike valets are integrated and events are created to encourage and promote bicycling. The possibilites are endless and could tie in with so many other great ideas about bicycling on MyPlanPHX.

The cities of Long Beach, San Diego, and Oakville, Ontario have created BFBDs and this would be a wonderful addition to Phoenix. The Melrose District is just one place that comes to mind that would be benefit greatly from becoming a bicycle-friendly business district.
