Downtown Desert Garden

To fill the empty space, and give people a reason to come and stay in the heart of the city, I'd like to see a walkable, publicly accessible version of the Desert Botanical Gardens in downtown Phoenix. How cool would it be to see cacti, yucca, agave, and other desert plants and flowers growing amid the skyscrapers? I think nature has a way of attracting people. It would give people working and visiting downtown a reason to be outside, a spot to clear their heads, and a sense of place. It would be unique to Phoenix-- our version of a Central Park-- consistent with our landscape and our identity. We could also commission local artists to do sculptures and other art work to add another dimension.

by Nicole R11 I would love to see this happen. Do you have any ideas where a downtown desert botanical garden would be incorporated?

by Ardyce E The only reason I go to the Glendale Public Library is to see their botanical garden and the peacocks. I suppose we couldn't have any wildlife, though?

by Barbara S10 I LOVE this idea -- but hopefully there is a way to incorporate shade and coolness...(cool in both senses of the word)
