I agree that there is serious problem and view "the" solution as multifactorial. The first aspect that I would address involves dial-a-ride. When I'm at a grocery in my low- income neighborhood, I often see one or two people waiting for dial-a-ride.When a van arrives, it only picks up one of them, or it drops off someone and picks up no one. I think that dial-a-ride and grocery shopping would be more efficient if there were fixed dial-a-ride routes and schedules around grocery stores By this I do NOT mean a heavy schedule, probably one trip a week on each route. Another idea is to disallow convenience and cigarette stores from getting food stamp licenses if they don't dedicate a certain amount of shelf space to produce. Of course this would require legislative action. I think that it would be worth our efforts. Please add your own ideas.
