World class Cities have world class, iconic bridges. The Golden Gat in S.F., Brooklyn Bridge in NYC, the London Tower Bridge in London, the Eads Bridge in St Louis, etc. Because Phoenix lacks many large bodies of water its understandable that we don't have much of a 'bridge culture'. However the crossings over the Salt River, whether or not it ever has water in it, need to be better. Tempe does a great job with their bridges, the Mill Ave Bridge, Light Rail bridge and new pedestrian bridge are all excellent. Phoenix has the chance in the near future for an iconic bridge. It'll be on South Central Avenue. Light Rail is going to head down that way and the current bridge wasn't designed with that in mind and likely can't hold the LRT cars. So lets demolish the S. Central Avenue bridge and build something truly iconic. Don't forget to make the bridge truly multi-modal. Perhaps a 2 decked bridge. One deck for auto/Light Rail, the other for pedestrians, bikes, etc.
