Landscaped curb extensions would be a great way to visually improve our city and calm traffic, creating safer pedestrian crossings. The city of Long Beach has not only implemented curb extensions, but it has also installed retractable bollards that pop up to create a ciclovia space during street festivals. The result of these curb extensions: "Cars were taking their turns pretty slowly. Carefree pedestrians and bicyclists were easy to spot. Coffee drinkers were sitting, sipping and watching. It all feels very civilized."
