LED lighting in our communities carries tons of benefits! If we replace the old (HID) yellow lighting we can save the City millions Annually. Our current streetlights last four years on average,LED Roadway fixtures have a longer life estimated at more than 11 years at 12 hours of use per day significantly extending the time between maintenance cycles. Another great benefit is the possibility to reduce crime activity in our community. LED provides a pure white light which lightens dark areas that our current (HID) yellow lights don't. They are also environmentally friendly containing zero lead or MERCURY. Cities such as Las Vegas have already started investing in this technology to save them millions annually. They plan to replace 50,000 streetlights with LED fixtures.The city calculates this will yield an additional $1 million cost benefit, bringing combined annual energy and maintenance savings to $2.7 million! This would make our city more sustainable for future generations to come.
