Our auto dependent lifestyle carries quite a few burdens - including the fatality rate of car accidents.

Phoenix car crash fatalities are over 3 times higher than new York City - 10.1 vs 3.3 [on an annual basis per 100,000 residents].

How many miles we drive vs walk, bike or take mass transit has almost everything to do with that fatality rate.

Over 100 lives can be saved each year that we achieve 9 miles per driver per day driven, vs the average 25 miles per driver. Not to mention the $2,307 every human alive in NYC saves each year because of their driving habits.

That should be a fundamental goal of the various city agencies involved with people movement. The local economy will be $3.7 Billion richer each year for it.
