More Strict Noise Ordinance - Quiet Streets

If Phoenix could better enforce amplified music from vehicles along with noise caused by large knobby tires, our streets would be less chaotic and less conducive to vehicle accidents.

There have been several times I could not hear emergency vehicles (Fire & Police) approaching on the road due to excessive amplified noise coming from a vehicle's stereo system. The biggest issue is the base amplification.

Registered Arizona vehicles in Phoenix should be regulated on the decibel amplification of a sound stereo system installed. Sound stereo systems should be regulated to be in the best interest of driver safety. Loud music is fun, but keep it safe on the road by regulating decibel amplification installed in vehicles.

by Nicole R11 I forgot to mention including loud exhausts from motorcycles and vehicles.

by Ardyce E No matter what the noise ordinance is,we can't make a violation of it a priority complaint .Nor can we ignore that sometimes weapons or warrants go with loud noise.

What is a nuisance to us could (rarely) be dangerous to police officers, thus the helicopter overhead.

What we need is to amp up the method that's in place now to reach the property owner more quickly and effectively.

by Michael P21 I totally agree. The city can pass adjust the Noise ordance that is on the books now to have all vehicles checked during emissions and if the sound system is a boombox with the huge speakers and base speakers the owner of the vehicle should be fined $500. and can not be licensed for the next license period untill the system is taken out of the vehicle. I am so tired of having vehicles driving down our residential street at 3:00 AM waking everyone up. There is no reason that the owners of these vehicles have to inflect there noise (music) on others.

by Nicole R11 I like your suggestion.
Maybe we're neighbors or loud music in neighborhoods is prevalent at 3:00 AM. I have the same issue in my neighborhood.

by Ardyce E So who is to have decibel meters and how are they to enforce any ordinance?

by Nicole R11 I'm not an expert on this, but I will give your questions a shot.
What I do know is that Phoenix PD can enforce any noise ordinance as long as it's a nuisance to someone. When it comes to a moving vehicle, PD would have to determine if the noise amplification is a nuisance and stereo systems sold in Phoenix would need to have a decibel ratings listed. My idea is very rusty, I know, however something needs to be done. I have seen safety compromised too often by vehicles playing excessively loud amplified music from a moving vehicle.
