Phoenix, "Most Pet Friendly City in the US". As you probably know, most restaurants already allow dogs on their patios in Phoenix. With so many animal lovers, we have one huge barrier to getting people (and their pets) out and about: once they get somewhere, it's illegal to keep your pet in your vehicle because even in mild temperatures the inside of a car can hit 120-145 degrees within 30 minutes or so. So, why not solve the problem by getting more people (and their pets) out and about - make it known that they're welcome in the patios of restaurants, in stores, at public farmers markets, etc. I bring my dog into the bank, the grocery store, the mall, the Metro rail, and restaurants, and rarely have any issues, but it should be made public that "Phoenix Loves Dogs". Zero cost... amazing positive impact. And for anyone concerned about health issues, consider this: babies (and many adults) wearing diapers are allowed in public places... people with colostomy bags are allowed... people with open sores/wounds are allowed in public places (just go to Wal-Mart or a local library and you'll see open weeping wounds, I can almost guarantee it). So allow people to bring their pets on the train, to festivals, into stores, and again, make it known that "Phoenix Loves Dogs". Again, zero cost, amazing impact.
