What is your “Big Idea” for the future of Phoenix?

If ASU and Mesa cannot come to a deal on a new stadium, I think the City of Phoenix should aggressively pursue ASU as a tenant. The stadium is close enough to ASU and light rail. If the A's move to Hohokam the stadium will be without a tenant. With some repairs ASU could move in and they could lease off the area that Packard currently occupies. It would mean more parking revenue for Phoenix around the stadium, and the games are usually at night so they avoid parking issues with the surrounding businesses. It would be a win for Phoenix over Mesa and ASU's season lasts longer than Spring training. More out of town guests would also be able to stay in Downtown phoenix if they are coming for super regionals and such.

by Michael K15 I'd like to point out that ASU signed a 25 year lease for Phoenix Muni and it appears they are in discussions about Papago Golf Course: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/20130505athletic-director-steve-patterson-changes-culture-arizona-state.html

It appears either we have really good ideas, or somebody reads our comments.

by Will Novak Agreed! I'm kinda hoping the Cubs-ASU deal falls through. ASU will never be the 'home' team at that stadium, they'll always be a 2nd tenant. PHX Muni is a great stadium, with a beautiful backdrop and it has a history with ASU. Reggie Jackson and the rest of the Devils played game there before Packard was constructed.

Another benefit of ASU being at PHX Muni is that it may encourage future Street car extension up that way. Tempe is already looking at Modern Streetcar, and if ASU was at PHX Muni, it may be wise to run the line West on Rio Salado to Priest, North on Priest through Papago Park.

This would connect the Tempe Art Museum, Papago gateway center business complex, PHX Muni, Papago Park, PHX Zoo & the DBG!

Additionally, if ASU redevelops the land Karsten is on, Papago golf course (owned by PHX) ought to become ASUs new home course.

by Michael K15 I hope the idea for ASU at Phoenix Muni gets some traction: http://www.azcentral.com/community/mesa/articles/20121101asu-cubs-deal-mesa-stadium-dead-brk.html

I agree with also looking at Papago GC for ASU. It is a beautiful course and the City of Phoenix and ASU should jump on this opportunity.
