Light pollution prevents residents from fully appreciating the night sky, and it harms wildlife, especially birds.

We can reduce light pollution by eliminating light fixtures that allow light to shine directly into the sky, by preferring low pressure sodium lamps (which create light that telescopes can easily filter out), and by setting an early curfew on digital billboards and searchlight advertising.

This will make Phoenix more beautiful, it will benefit birds and otherwildlife, it will help restore the astronomical legacy of the state that discovered Pluto, and it will help inspire children to purse careers in science and engineering.
