Save the Coliseum! Long term, the Arizona State Fairgrounds will move to another site and modernize in a way that serves multiple purposes, better handles traffic and parking, and invites more folks from across the state to participate. The current Fairground is located at the most significant crossroads in Arizona and its redevelopment would reshape our community for the better. Saving the Coliseum makes sense for our collective cultural heritage. Not only was it home to our first professional sports team, the Suns, it has hosted Presidents and America’s most significant artists. Imagine the ballet, or opera, or symphony, or … making it a permanent home! Additionally, with only 9 more holes built on what’s currently parking lot, Encanto Park Golf Course could host international golf tournaments. This property could help develop Phoenix’s Shade Plan, showcase a delightful, historic, and relatively unknown part of Phoenix, and radiate positive development from the center of the metropolis.
