Tennis is a life-long sport played by every age group. It is great to see improvements to the Encanto Tennis Courts and the future plans for the Phoenix Tennis Center. However, there are many public tennis courts around the city that need resurfacing, especially in smaller parks. The tennis courts at Eastlake Park were recently removed and many courts have been removed from public high schools, including the tennis courts at Phoenix College. Does the city understand that tennis has now become the second biggest sport in the world behind soccer? Let's preserve and maintain the remaining courts we have in our city parks so that people don't have to belong to an expensive club in order to play the sport on a playable surface. The Williams sisters (some the greatest of all time) learned to play on public tennis courts in Compton, CA. In Phoenix, we can play all year around... it just requires improving and maintaining what courts already exist. Also, we need signs w/regulations.
