Tempe has properly capitalized on the Rio Salado corridor as an economic development engine -- so much that Mesa is now joining the party by renaming its own 8th Street. Now it's Phoenix's turn. While the city already has plans to add a Rio Salado Pkwy west of 7th Street, we need to look first to our neighbor to the east and how we can build on their success. There should be a continuous Rio Salado Parkway corridor that bridges all three cities, to complement the already robust light rail corridor and add vitality to an area that is already primed for economic growth along the south bank of the Rio Salado.
