We agree! South Mountain is one of the jewels within our amazing Parks and Preserve system. Events like Silent Sunday's are not to be missed!

At more than 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park/Preserve is the largest municipal park in the country, yet I would bet very few Phoenix residents know this statistic, or take advantage of the vast opportunities for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. Periodically, I will read something in our local neighborhood newspaper about the one Sunday each month where the streets within South Mountain are closed to car traffic - for the purpose of letting residents use the park for open bikes, roller skating, skateboarding, etc. There is a wealth of recreational opportunities for individuals and families - yet very few events are hosted in this park during the year. And I also think a campaign on South Mountain Park has potential to boost our messages to non-Arizona residents as a popular vacation destination spot. (I bet a comparison with the City of Scottsdale and you will find a greater emphasis on the McDowell Mountain Preserve)
