Legendary Phx artists Paul Coze created many memorable works over his time, ie murals at Sky Harbor and the Coliseum, but perhaps his best known work is the metal Phoenix bird statue that until recently sat in front of Town & Country. Since Town & Country has been expanding, the statue is MIA. It once sat upon a grand pedestal and even shot fire! Its a gorgeous piece of public art for sure. The City should buy it and move it to the triangle at Roosevelt/3rd Street, restoring it to its original glory. Along with well manicured desert landscaping at its base, it would make an iconic entry into downtown for people exiting the I 10. This idea is relatively cost effective and seeing the statue shoot fire as thousands walk by on First Fridays while skyscrapers twinkle to the South would be glorious.
