Create a more walkable Phoenix!

Phoenix has some really great things to offer. It has one of the most beautiful, biodiverse landscapes in the world, amazing and unique architecture, and some pretty awesome weather (most of the year). Let's encourage community and local business to develop and form, as well as develop Phoenix's personality by creating a more friendly, walkable Phoenix.

A more friendly, walkable Phoenix would include visual stimulation (such as artistic lighting and public art), landscaped areas (especially shade for the warmer months), public spaces, bike lanes, and small businesses (boutiques, bars, restaurants, etc).

One specific way we can encourage this idea, is by further developing and connecting distinct neighborhoods, such as; Downtown, Grand Ave, Roosevelt Row, Garfield and the historic districts north of the I-10 (Willow, Encanto, FQ Story, Coronado, and Los Olivos) through creating a more interactive, beautiful pedestrian walking experience that accents the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, local architecture, local art, solar power, etc.

Not only will this help to support local businesses, by increasing pedestrian traffic, it will help to create, support, and maintain community, and encourage tourism in Central Phoenix.

by Jan H4 Use every opportunity to create outdoor people places that link to other places with pedestrian pathways. Small scale and large. This should be a priority in making Phoenix a great place to live.

Add barriers like bushes seperating pedestrains from traffic.
Fixing roads so when a person in a wheelchair is crossing a street they are not faced with the possibility of being thrown out of their chair because the asphalt is higher than the curb cuts or broken roads or sidewalks
