Most automobile collisions are preventable, a result of negligent driving. As a result, they should not be called "accidents." Every time we call a preventable outcome an "accident," we excuse the behavior that caused it, and that makes our streets unsafe. The first thing we need to do is get the law on our side. Right now, Title 28 ("Transportation") in the Arizona Revised Statutes misleadingly refers to automobile collisions as "accidents." This needs to be changed, because the police use the same wording, and this gives them an excuse not to charge the person responsible for an automobile collision. Allowing bad drivers to continue operating deadly machinery in public makes our streets unsafe.
