Every year we have various events dedicated to this regionally important holiday, but they aren't on many people's calendars. I'm not just thinking locally, but nationally. New Orleans owns Mardi Gras, but no one owns this holiday in the US. Let's make a bigger deal out of it throughout the city (not just a downtown "festival" but everywhere) and see if it attracts some attention. My guess is that it will. While this may be a somber observance, it is one that also incorporates a great deal of festivity in the decor that accompanies the day. Our city would be better for embracing and celebrating it.
