Drop the confusing "Legends Entertainment District"

Did you know Phoenix has a place called the "Legends Entertainment District"? You may not have been aware, but its a new branding for a section of Downtown Phoenix. What the "District" really is, is just a place where the City has allowed increased signage. LEDs, billboards, etc. They promised it would be "just like Time Square." It was the brain child our of current City Manager if I'm not mistaken.

Well the installation of the rather uninspiring signage has gone up, and to no ones surprise, it looks nothing like Times Square. Now I'm all for more signs, glittery and otherwise Downtown, its an appropriate place for them. I especially love some of the large billboards showing sports icons from the Valleys past.

However.....

We dumped the "Copper Square" name for a reason (though there's still signs up that say it, those need to be removed). Visitors to our City are going to be confused enough, there's no reason to call one tiny section of downtown "The Legends Entertainment District." Its silly and confusing, no one ACTUALLY calls it that, and it just reeks of bad marketing created by out of touch corporate types.

The solution? Its an easy one and can start tomorrow. Leave up the billboards, signs, LEDs, etc. Paint over anything that says "Legends Entertainment District" and repaint it with letters proudly boasting:

DOWNTOWN PHOENIX

by Ardyce E Please, let's avoid the Copper Square mistake and try to preempt Phoenix residents' organically produced tags. Although I'm vague about the actual boundaries I call one downtown business, another downtown residential and the third downtown entertainment. If names are deemed required for the sake of visitors it would be convenient and less confusing if we could get them to agree.

by Bob D3 There's actually a lot of entertainment to be had in the downtown residential district, just not 50,000 seat stadia : )

by Will Novak Agreed. Don't even get me started on the Downtown PhoeniX signs in lime green with the giant X's on them. When they came out with those I sent them an email stating how embarrassed I was. That whole campaign reeked of out of touch ad men. It seemed like something from a Mountain Dew commercial from 1997. blllecckkk.
