Historic preservation advocates in Florence, Mesa, Tempe, and Tucson have formed specific non-profit organizations to advocate for and work to restore vintage and historic properties in their communities. It is time that Arizona's capital city form its own citywide historic preservation group that can partner with existing groups (such as the Phoenix Historic Neighborhoods Coalition, Modern Phoenix, Downtown Voices Coalition, and City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office), counterparts in other Arizona communities, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the Arizona Preservation Foundation. Too many historic buildings, sites, and neighborhoods in this city have been leveled; several are threatened as we speak.
This is a great idea. I think strong grass roots support is key.
