If you aren't already familiar with the term HAWK Light, it's not because this is a radically foreign concept. You've probably seen them and hardly given them a second thought. They are those blinking/solid lights at pedestrian crossings, and I say we need more of them.... all over! We should have these at every canal crossing in the city, where the roadway is four or more lanes, as well as at other greenbelt crossings (like Laveen's LACC) and where neighborhood through-streets connect to major roadways near parks and schools (if typical lighted intersections are unwarranted). This not only makes existing pedestrian crossings safer, but it also opens up many more miles of perfectly good transportation infrastructure that connects our neighborhoods for biking/walking.
