Start planning spaces and providing incentives for community gardens in every neighborhood. Many organizations already exist and move forward with this idea and would love to provide assistance. Look at what the City of Mesa has planned, they're way ahead of us! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=433814563327246&set=a.396584230383613.85759.395985800443456&type=1

by Anna T1 I love any idea of urban sustainability. Community gardens is a great idea for people who live in apartments or that have HOA's rules that say no gardening. We lost our business last year and I was not comfortable getting a job because of so many people unemployed. Society says single parents can live on one income so we decided together my husband would continue to work outside the home and I would learn to garden. I even had a corner stand offer to buy my vegetables. Our backyard has been just dirt for years. I don't have horticulture expertise so I am learning as I go. I do have a deeper appreciation for life and our communities. We have decided to expand our garden so that we can share more of what we grow. I'm in charge of a food pantry at my church and want to be able to share fresh produce with whomever is in need.

by Jim M18 Bob D3 is among a group of individuals, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and the Roosevelt School District working to "cultivate" South Phoenix. The relatively-new coalition is even called CUSP (Cultivating South Phoenix).

Health and wellness, including community gardens and urban farming, are important components of the initiative. They started a Facebook page for anyone who is interested in learning more: https://www.facebook.com/CultivateSouthPhoenix

by Sean-Michael G Yup this is totally doable. It would be great to see the city support community farms and gardens. Specifically front yard gardening, gardening in empty lots which are currently eye sores, and being able to garden in the dirt spaces in front of houses and next to sidewalks, etc.
