http://en.wikipedia. Central Avenue is Phoenix's "Main Street", so lets treat it like such. I love driving down Central from the Arizona Canal to downtown. Going through Murphy's Bridle path, then past the tall towers & palms is great, but it could be better. All of the buildings fronting Central Ave need to actually front the street. Too many buildings that front Central are at 45º angles, which harms walkability. There are also areas between the LRT tracks and the traffic lanes that currently have yellow diagonal paint on them, those should be planters! More cacti, flowers & palms in those would make the City look more beautiful. Personally, I'd like to see Jacaranda trees planted all along Central Ave from Missouri to Jefferson. This would create a uniform look, and their purple flowers look stunning in the spring. Additionally, they're great shade trees. Check out this street full of Jacarandas in S. Africa: http://tinyurl.com/9 I'd also like to see more palms planted. There are many of them, but there are gaps in the planting which ruins the promenade effect the palms produce. As a child I seem to recall more orange trees lining Central, it would be nice to have those back, it smelt wonderful and of course it pays tribute to the 5 C's. Better signage needs to be up on lampposts delineating exactly when someone is in Downtown vs Midtown vs Uptown as well.
