As long as the sun shines in December, housing and growth will be a big industry in Phoenix. So why not build quality houses, like we used to? For all future residential single family development in the City of Phoenix, lets do away with garage door snout houses. They make it seem as if the house is a place for the car to live, not for people. They hide front doors and they encourage people to hide inside their homes and not know their neighbors. A better design is either garages that lead into a back alley, garages that face the side of a house, or lanes/carports along the side of the house. Another option is a backyard garage thats entered through a lane to the front of the house. Most every home in Phoenix once boasted a large front "sleeping porch" (before AC was invented, we slept outside in summer) and we need to bring back our porches. They promote "eyes on the street" safety, community and a better sense of place.
