This corner has a little collection of local shops and restaurants that you can walk up to from the sidewalk - without having to cross a big parking lot. In fact, there is limited parking for cars (by Phoenix standards) and not a bike rack in sight. Many businesses have not been able to survive because of that. This makes it the perfect place to create a more inviting bicycle and pedestrian friendly corner with a bike share, bike racks, landscaped curb extensions and more shade trees. It's been proven that bicycles and pedestrians, more than cars, are good for business!

This corner is directly across from Phoenix College and is within walking distance to Encanto Park and its surrounding historic districts. It's home to McGurkee's Sandwich Shop and The Southwest Gardener, which have both been there a very long time, as well as The Original Hamburger Works. There are also several vacant storefronts due to lack of business. One of these, on the SW corner, would make a great neighborhood coffee shop!
