NE Extension Metro Rail Station at Dreamy Draw Park

When the NE Extension of the Metro Rail occurs, please plan for a station at Dreamy Draw park with a "Western Portal" to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Piestewa/Squaw Peak. Imagine if everyone could get their bikes on the train, or just get their hiking boots, or climbing gear, and hop on the train. For residents and visitors alike, it would be a unique experience to have a rail station dedicated purely to the enjoyment of the outdoors... where else in the world do you see this, and it would greatly reduce traffic congestion for hikers in this area, and for people living in the neighborhood of Piestewa/Squaw Peak.

by Jon G2 I think we all have the same idea that the light rail needs to head up to NE Phoenix. The only real way to get it up to Shea and 51 is to get it to come up 16th street to Northern (make a stop for people to get off and head east to the preserve) then head up the west side of the 51 (some removal of rock will be required) and a stop at 32nd and Shea before it heads east to Tatum and Shea and then north. 32nd & Shea has a park & ride lot, access to the mountains from the east and west. This gives access to the preserves for hiking/biking and also the public transportation from the NE valley. 32nd Street north of Shea is looking for new life and dropping people off at the corner will help. NE residents deserve the right to have access to the light rail without driving to it.

If we go to the Biltmore area we are going to be land locked by mountains and Paradise Valley itself. Maybe there can be a spur line from 16th and Camelback to 24th Street

by Nicole R11 Your right Ben, Dreamy Draw and Piestewa Peak parking lots are cram-packed full on the weekends and holidays. People begin parking off road into the desert to find a parking spot. These parks could also use way more bike racks if they do push for public transit to them. I'm opposed to any parking lot expansion, but the City will more than likely do that before the more expensive option of providing public transit, however maybe a weekend bus route that extends into Dreamy Draw could suffice.

by Ben B9 Even a bike-share rental area would be amazing...

by David B45 I have doubts about the ROI of the northeast extension and think we should go ahead with a Biltmore Spur while evaluating options for connecting northeast Phoenix to light rail.

If the northeast extension is ever built, though, a station at Dreamy Draw Park would make a great deal of sense. We'd be one of the few cities that would boast a rail transit connection to a major outdoor recreational area.

by Ben B9 I have always thought just heading east in Indian School to 16th, then to 24th, then up 24th through the biltmore area and back into the right of way of the 51 has made a lot more sense... seems like they're pretty set on the 16th alignment... but then again, 16th is hopping quite a bit lately...
