PHX Needs Better Architecture

Downtown PHX has some of the most generic, boring architecture that I have ever seen. Many cities are famous for their world-class architecture: Chicago, NYC, San Francisco. It's a big draw for tourism and it adds a unique ambiance to the city. When buildings are being planned in downtown PHX, let's encourage them to be visionary, even experimental, and world-class. Set them up to become iconic landmarks of the city. ASU has an Architecture program, so there is a ready pool of new architects that I am sure could create some fascinating concepts. Why not hold architectural contests for prospective buildings that aspiring architects can participate in? When a building is being planned that has landmark potential due to size, etc., why not hold community meetings so people can talk about the concept(s) proposed? I am not just talking about zoning issues, etc., but also the aesthetics of design and what the building would mean as an addition to our cityscape.
