Plant 100 Saguaros in Downtown & the Capitol Mall
Shouldn't there be some of these Downtown?

Doesn't it strike you as odd that the saguaro, the proud symbol of our state, which is on our license plate and produces our state flower, is rarely seen in Downtown? Downtown PHX is the heart of Arizona, yet scarcely a saguaro to be found.

I work as a Tour Guide, and I can't tell you how often I've had visitors who are staying downtown (often for conventions) complain that they can't find a saguaro Downtown to take a picture of/in front of.

I'm not saying we should plant saguaro's in lieu of shade tree's, far from it. But places like Civic Space Park, Cesar Chavez Plaza, the planters in front of the Convention Center, Hance Park, Wesley Bolin plaza, Roosevelt Park, etc. need to have some saguaro's!

I propose the City plants 100 MATURE saguaros throughout Downtown & the Capitol Mall area as a testament to our states great desert sentinel.

EDIT: Follow up thought! This could be an "Arizona Centennial Project". The Centennial is all year after all, and we have until February 13, 2013! This could EASILY be done in that time if the City wanted to make it a reality.
