in 2002 at the Heard Museum Biennial I saw a Mohawk artist's video of the creek banks of Newtown Creek, which is the border between Brooklyn and Queens, and saw it again near Ground Zero a few years later. It was a raw look at what has happened to this once-beautiful creek. A Vimeo link to an excerpt of it appears below.

Phoenix should commission such a video project along the Arizona Canal and Grand Canal, so the entire City can see how and where we still welcome the Canals into our city's life and how and where we have shut it off from us, and where we can repair that.

Many Valley cities have embraced the Canals running through them in larger and larger sections. The results are beautiful meeting, convening and recreating places.
